28th June
Teens 'n' Twenties present The Young Rascals, Country Joe and The

lights by Bob Holt Light Productions at the Oakland Auditorium,
Oakland.
Correction:
The 6/28/67 "Teens 'N' Twenties" Young Rascals show
at the Oakland Auditorium in your listing is incorrect. I was
there. Sparrow did not perform; the Grateful did played instead.
They did (not in order) "Beat It On Down The Line," "Cold
Rain & Snow," "The Golden Road," "Good
Morning Little Schoolgirl," and I think "Morning Dew." Maybe "Cream
Puff War" or "Minglewood Blues" too. It was a
fairly short set. They went on second, after the Sons of Champlin.
The Sons had a member who walked with crutches--I believe their
organist.
Then Country Joe, the Grass Roots and the Young Rascals, who
closed with an extended jam. The Grass Roots were a little too
slick and pop, whereas the Rascals were tight and put on a great
show. But it was an interesting juxtaposition, because the less-commercial
S.F. bands were obviously tapping into something new and exciting.
I believe the show's promoter was Bill Quarry, who was a car
dealer who used to put on more conventional rock shows vs. Bill
Graham's and Chet Helm's shows, which had already been going
for a while at the Fillmore and Avalon.
I was already familiar with the Dead and Country Joe from their
first albums, and in Country Joe's case their Rag Baby EP's before
that.
